Leckey, Mark
1964 London, lives in London (UK).

venue: casa Ciriza

Mark Leckey is a contemporary incarnation of the 19th century flaneur, an untiring explorer of urban, nocturnal life. His films and videos combine both found and original footage to capture strange rituals and gestures of suburban dandies in carnivalesque costumes. His video, Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, has attained cult status. As a cut and paste collective hallucination assembled from images of raves and disco scenes from British television, the video unravels as a visual essay on psychosis, mass hysteria, and nightlife excess. Preserving and, at the same time, erasing memory, Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore is an exercise in dissipation and a melancholy look at our everyday moments of loss.
